For the presentation of the re-branding of one of Europe’s leading airlines, in close cooperation with the company’s management MK Mentor developed and implemented a hospitality concept for more than 3,400 guests. The event took place simultaneously in Frankfurt and Munich inside two huge aircraft hangars in the sensitive high-security areas of the airports. Like the global re-branding itself, the occasion was also remarkable for a range of superlatives appropriate to its historic significance.
The total area of the two locations was equivalent to 5 football pitches or 34,500 m., with 23,000 m. in Frankfurt and another 11,500 m. in Munich. This probably qualifies it for an entry in the Guinness Book of Records.
The catering team alone consisted of 421 employees, who ensured that the culinary choreography for over 3,400 guests both before and during the gala was seamless and efficient.
The 3,279 chairs used for the banquet would have reached a height of 9,708 feet if we had stacked them on top of each other. This would easily have exceeded the minimum flight altitude of 9,000 feet for commercial aircraft.
For the event 122 tons of catering equipment and furniture was delivered, assembled and, of course, dismantled and removed again afterwards. If we had transported this volume of 1,600 cubic metres with the passenger version of the A380, almost nine of these giant aircraft would have been required.
In order to transport the entire equipment for the event, five 3.5t panel vans, six 7.5t trucks and, believe it or not, twenty-four 40t articulated lorries were used. That makes 1,022.5t in all – in other words roughly the weight of two fully fuelled A380s.
seconds was all it took for the catering team to serve a single course to each of the 3,400 guests. This is pretty much twice as fast as it takes an A380 to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h. A total of 23,800 individual dishes were served at the same speed throughout the evening.
